Unfortunately we have been conditioned even in church that “self love” is selfish and even promotes vanity and pride. In fact self love is so important. A better term for self love should be called “self worth”! There is such a fine line between the “good” self love and the “bad” self love.
Self respect and boundaries are incredibly important. I tell my daughters daily either verbally or in a lunchbox note to “know your worth” “you are priceless” “you are more precious than rubies and diamonds” God loves you just as you are” etc. Knowing these facts and actually living like one believes these truths isn’t vanity. It isn’t wrong. It isn’t selfish. It is actually what God wants... for us to see ourselves the way He sees us! That is a challenge for me daily as I am sure it is for many of you. The Holy Spirit has to remind me of this many times. Often we feel unworthy unloved not good enough. Here’s the thing...Without Christ separate from Him we ARE unworthy.
However God loves us in spite of ourselves just as we are. THROUGH CHRIST we are forgiven and may come boldly before the Throne being shown mercy and grace.
Mercy and grace are beautiful things. Mercy is when we don’t get what we deserve. God not punishing us for the sins we are guilty of. Grace is God blessing us despite the fact that we do not deserve it. Mercy is deliverance from judgment. Grace is extending kindness to the unworthy. That is amazing LOVE.... unconditional love!
We should love ourselves forgive ourselves while loving others with respect and compassion.... all because we were first loved! .
