Whenever I’m asked about what companies a consultant should be pitching I always respond with huge multinational corporations.
The reaction often is something like “they’re a huge multi-billion dollar company. They probably have someone on staff that teaches what I consult on.” Whether that’s true or not you should never let a company’s size name or whatever intimidate you from trying. You should pitch any and every type of company that your training could impact.
I’m a former high school dropout from Milwaukee Wisconsin. I didn’t go to college didn’t get any special training didn’t take any special programs/hire a consulting coach or catch some lucky break that led to what I do today. This year I have done consulting gigs at companies in 34 countries. I have done consulting gigs for some of the top 20 companies in the entire world.
I wouldn’t have done any of this if I fed into the belief that the companies already had someone or that they wouldn’t listen to someone like me. To get here I had to believe I could accomplish what others told me is “impossible.” That belief gave me the strength to pitch all kinds of companies and eventually put a system in place that gets companies approaching me about gigs.
Go after what scares you. That’s where the growth and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities are. #happy
